Austin, Texas-based no good, slack-jawed, redneck metal band Critical Assembly is fired up to announce the release of a new four-song EP, Critical Assembly, on March 6th, 2020.
The record is another blast of the drop-tuned guitars, heavy drumming, and vocal heroics that define the band’s sound and those close to the group believe this new record represents the future of Texas groove metal. The current lineup of Anthony Stevenson on drums, Donovan Hand on vocals, Matt Olds on bass, and Rob Hicks on rhythm guitar is the strongest in the band’s decade-long history and is more than ready to bring these new tracks to metal fans everywhere. The new record was recorded and produced by Rob Hicks and Critical Assembly and mastered by Joey Duenas. Everyone involved is confident that this will be a career-making release for Critical Assembly and break them to a much larger audience.
A track on this EP that really stands out for me is the track 'Moonwalk Backflip'. This is an exciting, heavy-layered, and ground shaking composition. The guitars sound rigid and heavy, as they carry the track with a powerful riff. The drum pattern sustains a perfect tempo, while the bass balances the composition. The vocals are at the center of this composition, alternating styles between verses and chorus. In the chorus, the vocals take on a more melodic role, while in the verses, the vocals sound heavier and deeper. This is definitely my favorite track off the EP. It gives you a great taste and a feel for the EP.
