Interview with Sonny Dhanowa from Dekalog

February 18, 2019

DEKALOG comprises of Producer Sonny Dhanowa and Songwriter Dan Roberts. This partnership’s signature sound runs through the core of their music with a style that heralds creativity, craft and artistic dynamism.

Just add talent in the form of singer Fien Desmet and rapper Amazumi to deliver a new musical chapter, their first album – ‘Een’

We were fortunate enough to catch up with Sonny Dhanowa from Dekalog for a quick Interview:

When did you realise that you had a passion for music?

From a very young age I was very involved in music. In my early-teens I was an avid break-dancer, then a scratch/hip-hop Dj, then I was promoting club nights in London and Barcelona. In the last few years I’ve got more into the production side of the industry. Music has been, is, and always will be a stable constant in my life.

Who are your main inspirations as an artist?

I come from an extremely eclectic musical background, from hip-hop to stoner-metal, and back around again. My main inspiration in all these genres are always the people who come from nothing and achieved something, not necessarily greatness, but who have made their own individual mark on the scene.

What would you like to achieve as an artist?

I think most artists are looking for some kind of longevity in their career, so currently I’m looking to establish a decent fan base and then will build on that. I’m also trying to promote the ‘Dekalog’ and ‘Blue Ghost’ brands within the industry itself. But of course, a few more album sales wouldn’t go astray; https://dekalog.bandcamp.com

What is your most memorable moment while being an artist?

As we’re still a very new outfit (since January 2019) memorable moments still have yet to come. But the whole creating and recording process for ‘Een’ was a hugely rewarding experience, in terms of both enjoyment and learning.

What is the biggest artist you’ve worked with?

Humm… myself, Dan Roberts, Fien Desmet and Amazumi J

Tell us a little more about your recent project?

‘Dekalog with Fien Desmet + Amazumi – Een’ is the first release on Blue Ghost Records. It encompasses a hybrid sound that puts a flavourful spin on the Alt-Pop and Hip Hop/Trip Hop genres; delving into different elements in each song to showcase every angle of our talent and craft.  Our music puts a dark spin on the Pop genre and really explores the full spectrum of raw emotion. It’s an edge-of-your seat listening experience for all those who want to delve into what lies beneath.

What should we be looking forward to from you in the future?

We’re currently working on a second album, called “Dos”, this should be ready within the year. I’ll also be working on single track collaboration projects with various artists from around the world. Follow us here:

Is there anything else you would like to tell our readers?

In the very near future I’ll be developing an apparel side to the Blue Ghost brand, and apart from all the producing, I also run a monthly living room concert event:
