Interview With John Arthur Lewis
We were fortunate enough to interview Sweedish Songwriter, Musician and actor John Arthur Lewis. His project "The Birth of JAL" is set for June 6.
When did you realise that you had a passion for music?
As far back as I can remember I've been playing music. It started with pots and pans for drums and then an old guitar with only four strings left on it. I started writing songs when I was about seven years old. I remember as a child that I reacted very strongly when I heard music that I liked. The music totally absorbed me. Like many musicians I played in different bands as a teenager and I kept writing songs. Me and my best friend Joel had a band called Animal Park and we wrote a lot of songs just by improvising. We still write music together.
Who are your main inspirations as an artist?
My main inspirations as an artist is very difficult to say. I have som many influences and styles of music that I like. But I've always liked Dire Straits, Van Morrison, Tom Waits, Miles Davies, Metallica, Warren Zevon and many more.
What would you like to achieve as an artist?
As an artist my goal and what I want to achieve is just to continue to compose music and create films.
What is your most memorable moment while being an artist?
One of my most memorable moments as an artist is when the record company called me and wanted to sign me as a recording artist and make an album. But other memorable moments as an artist is the magic I always felt when I compose music together with my friend Joel Rapi. He is a great singer and a great writer.
Tell us a little more about your recent project?
My main project the latest months has been my album "The Birth of JAL" that is being released 6 June. I also have a single coming out in about a week called "Miles".
What should we be looking forward to from you in the future?
Last weekend we shot the music video for my song "By Your Side", a song that was composed and dedicated to the elderly and homeless people in my hometown Stockholm in Sweden. The wonderful organisation Vid Din Sida helps this senior citizens and I am donating all of the profits from the song and the music video to the organisation.
Later this summer I'm writing music for a major television broadcasting network in the states.
Is there anything else you would like to tell our readers?
I am so happy that my songs are doing well and that I get to do what I'm doing. Thank you for listening and appreciating my music.
