Interview With Marty Manus

We were fortunate enough to interview country solo artist Marty Manus.

‘What do you enjoy most about being a musician? What do you hate most?’ I love the creativity, being able to tell people a story, sharing how you feel with them.. giving them a glimpse into your heart and mind.. that connection is amazing. Who inspired you to make music?

I was raised on real country music, uncompromised country.. Waylon, Cash, Alan Jackson,.. then the reason I ever picked up a guitar- Kurt Cobain What’s the best advice you’ve been given?

nothing happens overnight Tell us about the EP.. 'sleeping with the devil'.

You know, for me, it’s more of a token of my drive and passion for production.. I produced the ep myself, and there’s a few covers on there.. so I guess it wasn’t so much of a creative process as much as it was a passion for other things. What’s been the biggest obstacle for you?

I would have to say coming out of Chattanooga.. I don’t get me wrong, I love it.. it will always be home.. but musically, it’s very diverse, not enough avenues to pursue anything major.. I’ve been very blessed to do some of the things I’ve done. Speaking of Chattanooga, your making quite the noise in the city huh? Like I said, I’ve been very blessed. What’s artists do you listen to regularly? Cody Jinks is amazing.. Colter Wall, Tyler Childers, Sturgill Simpson What’s been your biggest focus lately? I’ve been traveling to Nashville pretty frequently, making connections up there.. doing a lot of promoting.. just getting the word out as much as I can in a bigger city.. one that caters to my vision. What’s next? What’s your ultimate goal? You know, I’m just gonna keep doing what I’ve been doing.. I’m not out hoping to get a record deal & get rich, the respect means a lot more.. to have people love your art and respect you for it, much more valuable to me.. Best advice you could to a new musician? As cliche as it sounds, never give up.. plan a vision in your mind and get out there and do it! Hard work pays off. What are you the most grateful for? All of my fans.. everyone who has supported me in any way possible.. can’t tell you guys enough how grateful I am.. to anyone who has ever came to a show or shared a post.. there’s no doubt in my mind that I wouldn’t be doing what I am if not for that.
