Interview With Sydney Kerley
We were fortunate enough to interview a great artist by the name of Sydney Kerley. Stick around to the end of the article as Sydney was generous enough to giveaway three digital copies of the new EP 'Lemonade', and it can be yours.
How long have you making music I have been making music for around 2 years now, I started off by helping people mix their bad rap songs and worked on my own music privately until recently getting to a point where I'm proud to show people what I make. Around a year ago I was in a band called YNK03, we made cool music but we all kind of went our seperate ways. What artists do you want to work with? Damn, I dream to work with Earl Sweatshirt, he is so awesome! I also dream of the day where I can get a Deem Spencer or Chester Watson feature. I was so happy when I got a Reverboy feature, he is so cool and just has such a talent for what he does, the work rate for him is crazy.
What would you like to achieve as an artist? I honestly just want to make people happy, no matter how much money I make or lose. As long as I know that I can change at least one persons life then it means the world to me. I make music as a sort of self therapy, when I'm feeling down I'll produce or if I feel heartbroken, happy or in love I sing. I just want to vocalise the emotions that run within everyone and find my footing in the music industry while I do it. What is your most memorable moment while being an artist? I remember when I found got invited to YNK, while we were all on different parts of the world, it was still thrilling seeing us all get into voice and video calls and just make beats, sing and make the best music. I still look back on those days fondly and hope that one day we can all sort out our differences and come back and finish the project we were working on. Tell us a little more about your recent project? Lemonade EP came from a collection of songs I released throughout the month of September, it consists of two instrumentals and two sing songs. I got features from my two good friend Barbie Paris and Reverboy, they both are amazing composers and creators, I was also going to include my friend Tom Niland, he is such a nice and talented musician but due to events conspiring this year, we had to scrap the song. This whole project was made in the time period of where I was sad. 2019 has not been a good year for me, I lost my cousin Jordan who I loved to the moon and back and often wish I could swap places with him, just so he could prosper. We lost him way too soon, far too young but god has his purpose for everyone. I was the victim of two fires within one month, thankfully the second didn't affect my house but the first one did, leaving our backyard in complete ashes. I worked at KFC and that shut down but that could be seen as a positive or negative thing. I liked my job and miss having money but now I have time to work on more music.
Can you tell us a bit about yourself? Hey, so yeah. My name is Sydney, I have live in the Sunshine Coast, currently in highschool, making music in my spare time. I make sing songs that are similar to bedroom/lo-fi music/indie/i dont even know but with a heavy Tom Niland/Reverboy influence, love them dudes! What should we be looking forward to from you in the future? I plan to release two new EP's before the year closes, one based solely on me and my friends making cool songs and one thats just me leveling about how broken this year has been. I haven't started working on them yet but it will be something to listen too. I don't know if I can say this but I will be featured on an unannounced Reverboy project and I am honestly beyond excited for that. I have a video in the works with a guy from America named Windows95Million, very minimalistic yet beautiful. He has a passion for music that is hard to comprehend, we are both experimenting with stuff outside of our comfort zone and it has turned out perfectly. Is there anything else you would like to tell our readers? Please stay true to yourself, I am currently at a crossroad in my life where I have to decide with what I have to do with my life. Do I pursue music or do a trade? I love what I'm doing right now and I hope I can make a career out of it but only time will tell, and if I fail, well at least I know for the future. I also want you too know that no matter what to keep on living, as I mentioned before, I have had the worst year you could imagine but I'm still here, stick kicking. I want to thank you guys for reading this interview as well, I have never done something like this but hope you will enjoy my music as much as I hope you do, I put my everything to it and I just want to share it with you! :)
