We were fortunate enough to interview artist Kev, Just Kev.
When did you realise that you had a passion for music?
At a young age, I realized that music was the only realm where I’m constantly comfortable. I was never shy or insecure when it came to music, no matter what anyone thought. My family is full of musically-inclined people so I decided to try and become a jack of all trades. It began with dancing for sure.
Who are your main inspirations as an artist?
My main inspirations are Kendrick Lamar, Jaden Smith, Smino, 6LACK, and J.I.D. They all of such unique attributes to their music that gets the mind going in a wavy way, ya know?
What would you like to achieve as an artist?
As an artist, I want to change the world. I want to become the outlet for those who can only communicate through music. I want to be the voice of those who go through day-to-day challenges on a relatable level, so I can help people understand each other from different aspects.
What is your most memorable moment while being an artist?
My most memorable moment was when I was at my homeboy’s bday party, they played a few of my songs and a good amount of people were reciting my lyrics and looking at me. It was really heartwarming to see that people really rock with my music more than I thought.
Who is the biggest artist you’ve worked with?
The biggest artist I’ve worked with is my boy Lil Bandz. He’s a local artist but he’s gaining a good amount of buzz outside of Long Island and he’s on the road to success for sure.
Tell us a little more about your recent project?
My recent project “Amethyst” is not only my first project, but it was also my attempt at showing the more vulnerable side of what my music represents. The more vulnerable side of me and my music focus more on deeper, wavy energies that resonate peaceful vibes. It has songs for all occasions, whether it’s a party or you’re just in your head about some things.
What should we be looking forward to from you in the future?
In the future, I plan to drop a few more songs as time goes on of course. I’m actually in the midst of recording a short film with my brother and some friends to go with the EP. I also have some collaborations with some really talented artists coming up soon so be on the lookout!
